Lilly Was Passed Out!!!
11/16/2020
Today we had a great day.
Our morning session went very well. I went to see her in her pasture. We hung out. She was sleeping when I arrived. But she came with me to go get her food. She liked her new food today. She was still spitting out the bigger chunks of alfalfa cube that had been softened with hot water. So I thought about it and realized that the texture and size must be too similar to pieces of poop that she kicks into her food dish. So I took the chunks and broke them up and she gobbled them up. So that was the problem. So now I know that the alfalfa cubes need to be completely broken up for her to eat them. I also was able to clean her feet. She
Then we went to the arena. I wanted to see if it was empty so that she could walk/run around. It was so I closed the door and took her off her lead and let her explore. She didn't explore much so I tried to encourage her. She explored a little more. But it was a nice relaxing time.
Then we went hand grazing around and we worked more on stopping when asked and moving on. This is something that will continue to be a work in progress. I need to work better on my signals and she needs to work on listening to those signals even when she is eating. This will be easier when I have my own land and I give her 24/7 access to hay. But until then we just have to make due with what we have. She got to say hi to horse friends along the way (the first time for this since I fell down). The horses were all pretty calm and she kept her distance most of the time.
Then we went back to the pasture so we could relax and she could have her nap.
The evening session went really well as well. When I arrived Lilly was passed out. Totally sprawled out on the ground. Pluto was standing guard by her. Nora was also laying down asleep - but not sprawled it. I was a little nervous when I walked up and she was so passed out. But I watched carefully to make sure her chest was moving, it was. I didn't want to wake her up so I took some pictures than went back to setting up her food so she could sleep. She was still passed out when I was done so I quietly entered the gate and went to sit down near her and wait for her to wake up. She was starting to wake up. She was drowsy but seemed happy to see me. She consented to the halter pretty quick and we went to her food. She was calm pretty quick as well so I gave her her food quickly.
