Day 5 - The Best Laid Plans....

Day 5 - The Best Laid Plans....

So in the game of wind vs Candice - wind won today. So there was a high wind warning all day today. The wind was blowing 30-40 miles per hour from the West and had gusts up to 65 mph. This means I can not ride my bike as it is dangerous. I tried using my carpool people to help me see Lilly. But that did not work out. So I asked a very nice woman who helped me get to the Pedal House back in August when my bike was broken to take me out to feed Lilly and give her her medicine for her eye. Because she was waiting for me I tried to be as fast as possible. So we did not get to spend much time together.

Today made it very clear that carpooling is NOT going to work. I have to buy a car. It really sucks as I am trying to save money to buy land and move to be near Lilly 24/7 but now this is going to set me back again.

It is frustrating. But I found some good prospects that are about $1,000 so hopefully it is a vehicle that will work well and be safe and reliable. I do not care what it looks like - I just need something for emergencies. I will also have to pay for car insurance. Another expense to deal with.

Lilly was beautiful today. She still told me clearly that she did not like the way I am feeding her. She turned her back and threatened me with kicking. I stayed outside the fence. She did eventually listen and briefly gave me her ears. She also did something strange again. I started using a little honey to stick her pills to her food. But I think this is a problem because I think it is causing a small choke. She is doing the Flehmen response. She has done this a few times when she is eating. So I am going to stop using the honey as a strategy. I do not want her to get a choke.

"Actions similar to flehmen (raised head, extended neck, curled lip, or yawning motions) are sometimes seen as colic pain is developing, or when a horse is experiencing low-level gastrointestinal discomfort. There is some indication that the same actions may be shown when a horse is trying to relieve throat irritation; has feed or other objects caught in its mouth or teeth; is feeling stress or anxiety; or is relaxing after a period of stress or work. With all these possibilities, it's hard to be sure why a horse is showing a certain behavior. To be safe, owners should keep an eye on a horse that begins to show ANY signs that are out of that horse's normal pattern, and should ask a veterinarian to examine the horse if there is a question about its health status." The Horse

I am concerned that she is doing it. So I will just crush the pills and put dissolve in water and pour it over her food and see if that works.

We shall see how she does today. If she has choke she will be distressed and there will be some signs. She did not have any clear signs of choke. If she has some today I will have to call the vet to come out to help her. Sigh..... I was using the slow feeder to prevent this very issue. Hopefully all is well and she is okay. It did keep me up a little last night thinking about it. This is why I want land and her to be near me. So I can check on her when these things happen.

Another concern I have is her water is dirty. OAS (On a String) only cleans and changes the water when it is low. If it was my own land and my own property I would use a smaller tank and change the water every day. All of these things I can not change. So I just have to go with the flow.

Another concern I have is she still is alone. Thankfully she is able to see other horses and hear other horses but she does not have a buddy. While her being alone helps ME it does not help HER. And HER happiness is my utmost importance. So again....just have to wait. They do have a plan to make it so she can touch noses with other horses. They also have a plan to get her with a buddy. They just do not want her to be hurt since she is still a baby. These are all good things. So I just have to have patience.

So my best laid plans have gone astray. Here's to hoping the wind helps me today.
