Week 8 November 29-December 5

 Week 8

November 29-December 5

Sunday, November 29
Highlight of the day was braiding Lilly's hair. When I put on her halter I always have to mess with her hair. I like her hair down too. But this will help me with her halter easier.

Looks funny sticking up - lol

She laid down next to me!!!!

Braided the side mane too!

My new rechargeable hand warmer. Because of my Rheumatoid arthritis one of my hands gets very cold outside. This is to help keep it warm so it doesn't hurt as much. I was going to buy warm hands - but they are such a waste. Used it for the first time today. There are 3 heat settings. I had it on the lowest heat and it worked great!!! It is also very nice to hold.

Monday, November 30
When I arrived Lilly and Pluto were waiting for me.
The highlight of today was taking Lilly into the arena in the afternoon with Elizabeth and helping her build more confidence and curiosity by putting bowls of her food around the arena. It seemed to work. I got her to come to the first and second bowl by just following me. But then she just stood there. So I put her lead back on and led her to the next bowls. The bowls had a strong smell so she did not like them. I might need to return the bowls because even after washing them they still have a VERY strong rubber smell. The experiment was a success as it did seem to help her enjoy being in the arena.
Elizabeth was the videographer.
I also used my goggles for the first time. They worked perfectly! Kept the debris out of my eyes and did NOT fog up!!! Yeah new goggles!

Tuesday, December 1
The weather today was not conducive to having good quality time with Lilly. It was cold, windy, and snowy. The horses at the farm where riled up. So I stayed close to the pasture. I did take her for a walk along the pastures for hay. But the evening session was cut very short. She only got her food than returned to the pasture. It was way too cold and windy.

Wednesday, December 2
Crazy morning - This was a very nerve racking morning. The morning started off normal I worked and than prepared Lilly's food. The weather was very cold. But it has been that cold before so I didn't think anything of it. I went out to the car and tried to start it and it was completely dead. It had no lights, no noises, nothing. So I knew I needed a jump. I looked around and was contemplating asking my neighbor - but than saw someone across the street at the church in their truck with it running. So I put on my mask and walked across the street and asked if they had jumper cables.
He said yes and drove his car next to mine.
We hooked up the two cars - I tried to start the car. It took a little but it started. But it would not stay on. It would only stay on when I kept my foot on my gas. We tried a few times but always with the same result - the car would die. I thanked the man and he left.
Than I tried to figure out how to get to the store to pick up a new one. I was able to order one online for curbside pickup from the local automotive store. But it was still very cold and snowy. I texted multiple people who have offered to help in the past with different transportation needs - but all had things going on except Annie. She has always been so willing to help me anytime I ask. She was awesome once again and came over to pick me and my old battery up. She drove us to the store and we waited outside for them to bring the new battery out. I gave them my old battery.
Then we drove back to the car to put the new battery in. Annie was so kind she said she would stay until we knew the car was okay and ready to go. She also had jumper cables if we needed them.
I put the new battery in and connected everything and went to try it out. It started right away!!! We rejoiced!
Then Annie left.
Now I had more problems to deal with and it was now almost 10 and I had a test to take at 11.
1st still needed to take Lilly her morning food
2nd car needs gas
3rd tire is looking very low on air
4th have to be back at the house before 11 to take the test

I rush out to Lilly and quickly stop on the way to get gas. I was going to fill up the tire at the gas station - but then remembered I have an air compressor at the house that I use to fill up my bike tires and it is made for cars.
Quickly get Lilly and have her eat by the car (save time getting her and putting her back)
Quickly put her back in the pasture (sorry Lilly)
Race home - make it in time to take the test
After the test - fill up the tire (it was SUPER low only 6.5 psi when it needed to be 33.5 - thank you universe for getting me there and back safely and the tire is not ruined)
Run to the store to pick up a poster board so Elizabeth can do her final school project (super scary haven't been in a store in soooooo long).
Race back home
Finish making dinner.
Make Lilly's evening meal
Eat dinner
Rush back out to the farm - but now I can slow down and enjoy my time with Lilly. I do her measurements again. She is growing so much! I just enjoy being with her.

Measuring time

Thursday, December 3
We were back to our normal schedule today. I was able to see Lilly in the morning. We had a good session. I was able to sit with her in the pasture while she napped.

Than Elizbeth and the dogs came out for the evening session. The dogs (since they had hair cuts because they were getting mats) had 3 layers on. They had the two sweaters I made them layered on top of each other and then they each had on a coat on top of that. This really helped keep them warm and they were able to have a lot of fun rolling around in the snow and running around. They are definitely becoming very comfortable around the horses. This is going to help so much when Elizabeth goes back to Indiana.

Friday, December 4
Another great day of walking, bonding, and peacefulness. I am really enjoying the peacefulness I am a part of when I am sitting in the pasture with them while they sleep all around me. It will be a part of my everyday life. I think it will bring me a lot of healing.

Saturday, December 5
It was a good day. I noticed when looking over Lilly that she had a cut on her hock. It was a pretty deep cut. I knew I would need to check around the pasture and try to figure out what in the pasture cut her so it would not happen again. After our walk - I let her decide where we were going to walk to and she walked all around the farm - I walked around the pasture looking for sharp things.
The wind shelter had two pieces of metal sticking out. So I though that was a potential place that she cut herself. I asked Andi if I could borrow a hammer and screw driver to fix it. She went with me out to the pasture and she fixed the metal pieces. Hopefully that solves the problem.
Now, I have the problem of getting Lilly's leg all healed up. Andi also gave me some natural salve to help it heal. I put some on it before I left. It did not look too bad.

When I came back in the evening - I cleaned the wound and that is when I noticed it was actually worse than I thought. So I am concerned and will be really watching it to make sure it is healing. Since Andi has had horses for so long - I asked her to check it out to see if I needed to have a vet come a look at it. She said that they probably would not put stiches and that she did not think it needed to be seen by the vet. Just continue to use the salve and watch it. So I put the salve on it. I will be cleaning and watching it every day. I will also probably put the silver salve on it as well. Hopefully it heals quickly.

When I arrived in the evening Lilly was sleeping with some friends around her. I sat on one of the ties and waited for her to wake up. As I was sitting there the rest of her herd that was standing nearby also laid down for a rest. It was very cool.
