Day 7 Still Learning to Back Up

Day 7 Still Learning to Back Up

Had a pretty eventful day today.

I taught my classes like normal than prepared Lilly's stuff to take out to her. I had researched how to clean a fly mask (she is wearing one to help the wind not blow debris in her eyes). I discovered that I needed to buy her another one so I could take one home and wash it. So I bought another one at the local animal store - but did curbside pickup. I would have to pick it up later in the day.

I also had to go the vet clinic to get more ointment for her eyes as it is all gone and I still need to do this a few more days.

So I had to take the long route (ie 8 miles) out to OTF today. I also had a delay with having to wait for the medicine. W

When I finally arrived out (about 30 min late) Lilly greeted me with her usual neigh. It is wonderful when she does that.

I went about my normal routine of getting her slow feeder and putting her food in. She did very well and only expressed her displeasure a few times. But she had less turning and showing her butt to kick. She was able to get her food faster.

I fixed the halter. But it still is too big. I will have to adjust it more. I was able to put it on her easily. But I am still working on my technique.

I also filmed our session. I feel like we did a little better - but I still need to work on my technique and communicating better with Lilly so she understands better what I am asking. We are still learning to back up. It is a LOT harder than it looks. Trying to remember all the steps and to get them all right. Here is my 3rd attempt at communicating with her to back up.

As you can see I still have a LOT to learn about how to do this effectively.

I did not have time to do two sessions today because the winds were really strong again and I had to go to the store to pick up her new fly mask.

We also did PE in the park today for Elizabeth with her homeschool group so my bike did not get a chance to fully charge.

I was nail biting all the way home, wishing and hoping that the bike would not run out of charge.

I made it home successfully and continued my search for a vehicle. I have been in contact with a few people and some seem promising. Of course they are old because I can not afford anything new. But I need it to be reliable. I do not care what it looks like. But it needs to be safe and something that will work when I can not ride my bike.

I finally made a decision last night! He is going to bring it out tomorrow. Hopefully I will have a vehicle tomorrow!
