Lilly's Health Requirements to Travel
Vaccinations:
Depending on their location, there are many different horse vaccinations recommended. Here are the AAEP Vaccinations for Foals. So Lilly so far has received two shots of Eastern/Western Encephalitis and Tetanus and she has been dewormed once. So talking to Dr Burton (my holistic doctor for my pups Serenity and Sonnet) she said that she recommends Crystal Gill. Dr Burton can not do the vaccines because it is cost prohibitive. So I also contacted Dr Gill who will be my vaccination DR for Lilly.
Dr Gill recommends she have the 5 way shot in the spring. She also wants her to have the Rhino Flu shot before she comes since she will be boarding. She says we can do fecal testing to see if she needs to be dewormed before we deworm her since she is on a dry lot. She also said that "On a String" (the place Lilly will be staying) is not a hot spot for Strangles so she does not recommend Lilly get the Strangles vaccine because there are side effects.
Dr Burton recommends that Lilly get the Rabies shot and to always space out the vaccines instead of doing them all at once. She also recommends that Lilly have two homeopathic medicines (Thuja and Lyssin). When giving Thuja & Lyssin you give them right before you give the vaccine. Then you give another dose that night and one more dose the morning after. These help process the vaccine and help prevent negative effects from the vaccines. You give Thuja for every vaccine. You give Lyssin when you give the Rabies vaccine. The rabies vaccine is especially hard on animals so it is best to give both Thuja and Lyssin.
So the combo plan from both my Drs is to have Lilly get the Rhinoflu vaccine before she comes. After she has settled in Dr Gill will come out and give Lilly her rabies shot. Then in the spring when they have the vaccine clinic at "On a String" Lilly will get a booster of Eastern/Western Encephalitis and Tetanus.
