2 months!!!!!! 12/13/2020
2 months!!!!!!
12/13/2020
I can not believe it has been 2 months. Most days it feels like it has been much longer. We have come so far and learned so much together.
There was a lot of snow today so we did not have the weather to really do much together. I was able to go out 2 times and give her her food.
I also got a very short video of her making her yummy food sounds.
The second time she was chasing away the Della and Pluto when they tried to come say hi to me. It seemed like she was saying "Go away, this is my mommy and MY FOOD" lol But she gave me a wonderful gift when she went back in her pasture. I was able to see and capture her playing with her herd for the first time. So here is the wonderful video!

Week 9 December 6 - December 12
Week 9
December 6 - December 12
Sunday, December 6
Another vet visit. When I went out to the farm today I checked on Lilly's leg from her cut yesterday. It was dirty so I cleaned it and put some silver ointment on it. I also took her temperature.
I took pictures of the wound to keep track of its development.
Then we walked around and at the end I put some of the other ointment on it. But she laid down RIGHT on that leg and got it dirty again. She also seemed more sensitive.
When I went out at the evening her leg was dirty again and it was starting to get swollen.
So to be safe I called the vet to see if she could come out and look at it. Andi got me some warm water and betadine and I gently washed the wound while Lilly finished eating.
The vet came out pretty fast and she looked at the wound.
First she wanted me to hold Lilly's foot so she could examine the wound. Then she put her finger in the wound to see how deep it was. She said it was not too deep and didn't go into the joint. (VERY GOOD). She then squirted cleaner into the wound. Lilly did not like this and we danced around. Then she gave the bottle to me and we went around in circles while I squirted her wound with the cleaning solution. Lilly really did not like it but she did a good job.
Then finally because dressing the wound in this location would be very hard and it would not stay on she used silver spray on the wound to keep out foreign particles and to keep the wound clean.
She also gave Lilly Bute which is an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever for horses. She told me to give it to Lilly once a day for 3 days. She also told me to give Lilly 1 1/2 scoops of antibiotic powder once a day for at least 5 days.
I also called my homeopathic vet and asked what I could do to help support Lilly's healing holistically. Because she is on the antibiotic I will be giving her extra probiotic to help protect the good bacteria in her gut. I also will give her Arnica to help with inflammation and increase healing. I do not have very much left (had to give it to Sonnet for her surgery healing) so I will ask Dr. Vickie for more.
I hope everything heals well. Fingers crossed it heals quickly and she feels better.

When I went out to see Lilly today I was very happy to see that her wound is healing. She did not have a fever. The normal horse temp is between 99-101.5. The swelling looks like it is going down.
When I went out to see Lilly in the evening her wound was even better!
I was able to clean her butt and brush her a little. She had a lot of dried horse poop on her. I brushed her tail and her mane. It looks so pretty in the sun. We went for a walk and said hi to the other horses. She did her "I am a baby" mouthing thing she does with other horses. I finally got some pictures of it.Checking out the cows in the big pasture next door. OMG!!! Fuzzy baby cows!

Lilly's wound is doing much better today. It is healing very well. Her temperature is still normal. She is doing really well.
Wednesday, December 9
Lilly's wound is doing better. Her temperature was a little higher but still within normal range 99-101.5. We went for a walk today - letting Lilly lead the way - most of the time unless she wanted to go somewhere I did not want her to go for safety. But there were a lot of people at the farm and so all the horses where amped up and so Lilly got amped up and did some dancing, bucking, and running around. It really did seem like she wanted to play. BUT the problem with that is that it is NOT safe to play with a horse that weighs close to 900 pounds. When we finally got back to the pasture - we went to the water and she started playing in the water! It was so cute!!!! She was taking her head and pushing the water all around. And THEN she put her foot in the water and was kicking the water around and pushing the water around. She was trying to get more legs in the horse trough. BUT she is too big. Then she tried to get her leg out but she was struggling so I helped her lift her leg out of the trough. She had a lot of fun. The other horses in the pasture next to her were VERY interested in what she was doing. Then she did something else interesting. She walked down the fence line to the back of the pasture. The other horses followed her. It really looked like she wanted to play with the other horses. Della, Nora, and Pluto were also down at the end of the pasture and it looked like everyone was talking to Lilly. They did not start playing - but it looked like Lilly wanted that. I took some video - but nothing really big happened.
So on my way to putting the measuring stick away - I met with another owner and was talking about Lilly and she said that her horse, and another horse like to play in the arena. So that might be a solution. So I gave her my phone number so she could text me when they were going to go to the arena for their horses to play so that Lilly could potentially play with them. I hope that they like Lilly and Lilly likes them and that they can play together. She REALLY needs other horses to play with.
I also measured her today.

It was so good to see Lilly even with the bad weather. After feeding her by the pasture we went in and she hung out and slept and I took pictures. She looked so pretty in the snow. She also made some funny faces.
The highlight of my evening session was when Lily greeted me when I arrived. It makes my heart feel so good!
Saturday, December 12
The weather was still not great. But we had some good visits.
I love how Lilly and Pluto often area waiting for me at the gate.
Pluto is so funny. She is eating Lilly's lead rope clip.
